The Cards
The game is played with 2 players, each with a deck of exactly 60 cards, plus 1 Vanquisher. The deck can compiled from any combination of creature, spell and essence cards.

1 per deck**
The Vanquisher
The Vanquisher represents the player themselves and comes as a double-sided card (without the regular back). It is not shuffled into your deck but instead played to start the game. Other games have life-points or health, EoC has the Vanquishers. Stage 1 is initially played, it's not that strong and has an entry-level effect to influence the flow and feel of the game.
If your Stage 1 Vanquisher is defeated, it upgrades to Stage 2 by flipping the card over. In this evolved stage, the Vanquisher gains considerable power and a new, more powerful effect or ability to guide your creatures towards victory!
Vanquishers cannot attack directly, but they can counter-attack to defend themselves. Under normal circumstances, your Vanquisher cannot be targeted directly while you have creatures defending it on the field: the creatures must be dealt with by your opponent first.
See the Creature Card Map for a break-down of the card details and their meaning.
**Only 1 Vanquisher can be played per player per game.
Up to 4 of Each per Deck*
Creatures
The Vanquisher uses essence to create and maintain creatures. As many creatures can be created from your hand per turn as you can afford, so long as you have no more than 3 total creatures active at any time.
The creatures fight to destroy the enemy Vanquisher, but they'll have to go through the enemy creatures first to get to them!
Creatures come in a wide variety of different classes; a few examples would be "Human", "Dragon", "Reptile". Each class has it's own benefits, buffs and strategies. Classes can be mixed and matched for interactive strategies!
Each creature has an ATTACK and DEFENSE stat represented in the bottom right corner in ATK/DEF format. If your creature attacks an opponent creature whose defense stat is lower than your creature's attack stat, the opponent creature is destroyed. Creatures who are attacked automatically counter-attack (right before being destroyed, if they are), so they may be able to get revenge! The attacking player chooses the target they wish to attack.
You can pool your active creature's attacks to attack a single target as a group. When they do this, their attack stat is added up to make much more powerful attacks than any single creature could do alone. When a creature is attacked by a group, it counter-attacks any 1 creature of the group of it's choice.
Some creatures have an effect (costless) or ability (with cost), or both! These can have powerful influence on the battlefield. Another thing is to consider the creature's essence type, as most creatures are weak to a certain type of essence. While not every creature of one type of essence is weak to the same, there are well established general trends between essence types.
Creature cards are mapped out with the following details:

Spells
The Vanquisher also uses essence to create powerful spells which have a wide array of effects or abilities to turn the tide of battle in your favor. Spells come in different flavors, which can be played at different times and under different circumstances.
Effect: A spell that has a long-lasting impact on the game and must normally be removed by another spell or certain condition.
Instant: A spell that has a short, single-turn impact. Is normally sent to the graveyard when the turn it was played on is concluded.
Trap: A spell that has either a short or long-lasting impact on the game, but is played in response to an opponent's action. There is a special phase for playing trap cards.
Item: A spell that is attached to a creature of yours and remains attached to that creature until that creature is sent to the graveyard or banished.

Essence
Essence is the currency of the game. All creatures are created with, and spells powered by, essence. Essence is gathered by the Vanquisher from locations, artifacts or environments across reality, and reused for their own creations.
Some essence cards can provide more than 1 essence to the player's essence pool. Some more rare essence cards can even provide more than 1 type of essence!
See the Creature Card Map for a break-down of the card details and their meaning. The only difference with Essence Cards is the "Creation Cost" section is instead "Essence Provided". Think of Essence Cards as the currency, and Creature and Spell Cards as the costs you are paying.
*Up to 4 of any essence card with the same name may be included in your deck, with certain exceptions outlined in the ban list.
